Privacy
Short version: we collect very little, we don't track you around the internet, and we never sell anything about you.
What we don't do
- No advertising trackers, no tracking pixels, no ad networks.
- No Google Analytics or Facebook tracking.
- We don't sell or rent your information to anyone, and we don't share it with advertisers.
- You never need an account to read anything.
Just reading
We count page views with a simple tool we run on our own server. It tells us which stories people read and how they found them. It doesn't use cookies, it doesn't know who you are, and it doesn't follow you to other sites.
The site sets one small cookie that only remembers which of our papers you're on. That's it.
Like every website, our host keeps basic server logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure. If a page breaks, an error report helps us fix it.
What we keep, and only when you give it to us
- Newsletter: your email address. We also note when and where you signed up, so we can block fake signups. Our emails count opens and clicks so we know what's useful. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and once you're off, you stay off.
- Writing to us: whatever you put in the form, usually your name, email and message, so we can answer you.
- Event RSVPs: your name, email and party details, so we can run the event.
- Reader forms: what you choose to send, including photos, used only for what the form says.
If a page lets you look up something by address, like your council district, we check it against the public record and don't keep it.
Who helps us run the site
A few companies handle data for us so things work: our web host (Vercel), our database (Supabase), our email sender (Resend), and Cloudflare for spam protection and backups. They work for us and don't use your information for anything else.
Kids
The East Hampton Mercury is written for adults, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
